The White House
65 Clapham Park Road
London
SW4 7EH
The White House first hit the style press headlines in early 2001, laying the foundations for its rock-hard reputation as a cool combination of bar, restaurant and night club in the middle of Clapham. Sumptuous, sophisticated surroundings make you think you've just stepped onto a GQ photo shoot, where the star attraction is Paul Hamilton's Modern British menu. Begin your food flight of fancy with, say, citrus cured salmon with a fine bean and truffle potato salad. Take it to the top with rump of lamb made even more delicious with forkfulls of fondant potato, buttered spinach and mushroom and tarragon jus. Then end sweetly with a selection of summer sorbets. Uniquely, as an alternative to the full a carte menu, there's a less formal lounge menu served in the first floor members' lounge. The big-time DJs (Wednesday to Sunday) and cocktails, the handiwork of the beautiful bar team, deserve honorary mentions too. Overall excellence? We think so. Tables of 2 to 8 can be reserved from Mondays - Fridays between 5.30pm and 7.00pm on the new Roof Terrace.
