A London Guide / London Restaurants / French Restaurants / The Spread Eagle

The Spread Eagle

1 & 2 Stockwell Street
Greenwich
London
SE10 9JN

Known to have been a tavern since at least 1650, The Spread Eagle is currently run as a traditional French restaurant. The décor is superb and redolent of the 17th century and the service is genuinely friendly and helpful. The nearby tourist attractions aside, this would be a great place to bring foreign visitors for a flavour of Olde Englande - even if the food is Newe Frenche. The menus change every 6 weeks and the food is all cooked from fresh.
What's Cooking?
Soup of split peas and confit of duck; Crab ravioli; Sea bass with squid and saffron risotto; Veal medallion with artichoke and potatoe; Hazelnut praline mousse; cinnamon rice pudding with rum and pineapple compote.

Average Price: £35

Cuisine: French

Underground: Cutty Sark
