North Pole Piano Restaurant is the kind of place you immediately warm to, especially if you're a local. Gorgeous, good value and relaxed it offers West-End quality without the travel hassle. Better than that, it is genuinely homely, if you live in an elegant stately home, that is. Ascend the stairs to the restaurant and you'll find it's split into an airy main dining area next to a smaller, country pile style room. In the corner of the former the resident pianist plays every evening, while the highlight of the former is a real fire. Now that the scene is set, what about the food? Nice, easy going European dishes include mains of beef fillet with bacon mash and red wine, and tomato and baby spinach risotto for veggies. Perking up the puddings is a pink champagne jelly and vanilla cream. Sunday has its very own menu.
