When Michael von Hruschka had to give up Birdcage restaurant, there was a moan of sorrow throughout gastronomeland that turned into a sigh of delight at the opening of his MVH in Barnes. The outre decor features a hell-themed bar and heaven-themed dining room, with loads of attention paid to the telling details. It's a place for trendy grownups to come and enjoy food that is out of this world. You will start with a plate of four or five amuse-bouches, little bits of paradise that set the tone for the meal. Menus change frequently, but could include starter of boudin blanc with truffle brioche and garlic leaves, main coure of roasted lemon sole with beetroot mash and munster asparagus, and puds include rhubarb creme brulee or some perfectly kept stilton with port. The wine list is large and stunning, and Sundays feature roast lamb as well as Sunday favourites like eggs Benedict. Ingredients are of the highest order, and the cooking is renowned, and there are even cooking classes if you're inspired to bring a bit of heaven to your own kitchen.
