Le Cafe du Jardin
28 Wellington Street
Covent Garden
London
WC2E 7BD
As if you needed an excuse to find yourself in the neighbourhood of Le Cafe du Jardin, here are a few: Covent Garden, the theatres nearby, the opera houses around the corner, the shopping and street life on the doorstep. Got the idea? But really, Le Cafe du Jardin is enough reason in itself. It's a cosmopolitan, buzzing, comfortable brasserie-style restaurant on two levels with a modern European menu that pleases all palates. The ground floor restaurant has big, bright, conservatory-style windows, while the lower ground dining room has soaring ceilings, plenty of natural light, and a pianist to entertain you every evening. The menu includes starter of shellfish boudin with hazelnut and white truffle potatoes and a butter chive sauce, and main course of thyme and honey glazed confit of duck leg on bubble and squeak with a citrus jus, and pudding of praline parfait with banana and rum sauce. The wine list is delightfully heavy on the French side with very interesting contributions from the remainder of the wine-producing planet. Service is reliably good, and that's a pleasure, too.
