To find another restaurant like Fish Hoek, you'd have to travel about six thousand miles due south to sunny South Africa. Instead, South Africa has come to you. The light modern decor reflects the bright new SA and reminds you that there are places where the sun nearly always shines. The food, however, is a revelation. It draws heavily on the bounty of the southern waters - no surprise, given the name - and features specials and fresh fish dishes nearly unheard-of in the hyperborean north. Try everything. Cape Malay Kingklip Bobotie with sambals, Mrs Balls chutney and rice, for instance; or pan-fried Indian Ocean line-caught barracuda with chips, roast banana and olive oil; or grilled Transkei grouper with sweet potato mash, chilli, coriander and garlic butter. There are also fish dishes from Cornwall and Scotland, and all the dishes can be had in half or full portions. Gorgeous, vibrant SA wines stock the wine list, as well as SA beers. Friendly accents surround you. They may not be able to spell, but boy can they cook.
