The history of Covent Garden is reputed to date back to medieval times, when the Benedictine Convent of St Peter at Westminster Abbey owned a garden, the "Convent Garden". From these humble beginnings it has developed into a major shopping area with everything on offer from fashionable boutiques and famous shops to market stalls.
