BFI London Imax Cinema

The BFI London Imax Cinema, located on the South Bank, is contained within a glass-enclosed cylinder seven storeys high with a stunning mural by Howard Hodgkin around the outside. It was opened in 1999 and was made possible thanks to £15 million from the Arts Council of England's Lottery Fund. The London Imax boasts the UK's biggest screen, with an 11,600-watt digital surround sound system that helps to a create totally immersive experience.

Working together, these elements immerse viewers in larger-than-life images and ultra-realistic digital sound, making them feel as if they are literally "in the picture". You will be taken on journeys to other worlds, fly above the earth, and dive into the deepest oceans. The auditorium features 14 tiered rows of seats that enable all viewers—even children—to enjoy full, unobstructed views of the picture. The BFI London Imax Cinema is fully disabled-accessible, with eight wheelchair spaces and an induction loop for hard-of-hearing people.
