Charterhouse
38 Charterhouse Street
London
EC1M 6JH
Charterhouse is set in a distinctively three-cornered building just north of Smithfield Market with a bit of a multiple-personality thing that's no disorder at all. By day it's a terrifically dependable canteen for City workers who appreciate the excellent food and strangely gorgeous waitstaff. By night it's a very chilled bar/club/restaurant favoured by the young and the cool, who also appreciate the strangely gorgeous waitstaff. Meet in the bar at one of the long tables and gather your friends or amour while you enjoy some truly excellent cocktails or wine from the adventurous wine list and take in the buzzing ambience in the intimate space. Then move on to dine in the first floor dining room, choosing from the eclectic Euro/British menu. Starters include classic Caesar salad with smoked chicken, a favourite main course if the sesame crusted tuna salad nicoise, although we do like the smoked bacon sausages with butterbean mash and thyme gravy. Then stay on and on, grooving to the music Thursdays through Saturdays and drinking until late. Charterhouse is a real find in a lively corner of the capital.
