Changing of the Guard
A show of pageantry, the changing of the sentries at Buckingham Palace is the most famous of London's regular events. One of five infantry regiments, Grenadiers, Coldstream, Scots, Irish or Welsh stand guard at Buckingham Palace. The new guard leaves the Wellington Barracks, in Birdcage Walk, preceded by a band three minutes before the change, and marches down Birdcage Walk to the palace. The ceremony there lasts for 40 minutes, and takes place inside the railings of the palace.
