Chai Pani
64 Seymour Street
London
W1H 5BW
Ever eaten Rajasthani food in London? Now you can, at a new restaurant near Marble Arch just off the Edgeware Road. Actually, Chai Pani (meaning tea and water, the staples of Indian hospitality) is rather more than a restaurant. Describing itself as an Indian vegetarian restaurant and tea room serving lunch, dinner and afternoon tea, it offers a set Rajasthani 'banquet' featuring dishes largely unfamiliar to Western foodies. Classics such as dahl baati churma, and vegetable dishes made with dried wild berries and beans, continue the timeless Rajasthani tradition of serving rare and unusual dishes in a guest's honour. Afternoon tea (3pm - 5pm) is a selection of snacks served with non-alcoholic drinks such as rose lassi, a gorgeous blend of rose water and yoghurt. Fresh, bright and exciting, Chai Pani is a must for the adventurous (and vegetarians, naturally).
