Bug
The Crypt
St Matthews Church
London
SW2 1JF
Underneath St Matthew's Church in Brixton, Bug is hidden! Formerly Bah Humbug, this sumptuous dining room, in the crypt of the church, is made up of coves and arches, lit by candlelight. Very romantic and snug, you can settle in with your date and get all cosy! It's not just for couples though, the stylish lounge bar makes the restaurant buzzy, but chilled and there are always larger tables of people dining at the weekends, to make the atmosphere just right. Make your Bug experience complete with a trip into Bug Bar next door - in fact, you can dodge the queues outside and glide straight on in! During the Summer, the garden terrace is an oasis, where you can eat a la carte or from the bar menu....cool waitresses will bring you cold beer while you relax to the sounds drifting from the lounge bar. What's Cooking? Bug has been known as a vegetarian restaurant for some years, although serving up some great fish dishes too. Now chef Stuart Cauldwell has come up with a selection of great organic meat dishes, to add to the innovative International menu. You simply must try the amazing Cripsy Cantonese mock duck, served with pancakes and all the trimmings - uncannily like the real thing! Other superb dishes include Queen scallop brochette, rosemary skewers, herb polenta & dolcelatte sauce, Baked free-range egg & bell pepper, artichoke & saffron risotto.
