A London Guide / London Shopping / London Markets / Brixton Market

Brixton Market

Brixton

Brixton Market is home to one of Europe's biggest collections of Afro-Caribbean foods and produce. The market began in the 1870s, and with the huge wave of immigration in the 1950s it soon became an important focal point for the black community. It continues to be so today serving up West Indian specialties such as breadfruit, plantain, flying fish and fresh meats. There are also the usual stalls you would expect to find in any London market selling clothing, music, make up, flowers and the like.
