Boxwood Cafe

The Berkeley Hotel
Wilton Place
London
SW1X 7RL

When Gordon Ramsay cooks, it's always something special. And when Gordon Ramsay opens a cafe, it's truly spectacular. The Boxwood Cafe, set in one of Knightsbridge's swankiest hotels, is smart, welcoming, sophisticated and delicious. Let's begin with 'smart'. American designer Barbara Berry has taken the former Vong premises and made it luxurious yet simple in tones of
deepest green and brown with distressed silver, dotted about with gigantic black and white photos. Very sleek, very downtown, very now. 'Welcoming' is the polished, professional and cheery attitude of the waitstaff. 'Sophisticated' refers to the complex flavours of the seemingly straight forward dishes, like deepfried rock oysters with fennel and lemon, foie gras and veal burger with port wine onions, cos lettuce parmesan and chips, and poppyseed Knickerbocker glory, all given a touch of the divine by chef Stuart Gillies. 'Delicious' is what you'll say when you tuck in. The tables are spacious, the proportions are generous, the experience lovely.
