Bertorelli, Covent Garden
44a Floral Street
Covent Garden
London
WC2E 9DA
This Bertorelli's has long been a favourite with opera-lovers and balletomanes who make it their first stop before the curtain rises across Floral Street at Covent Garden and their last stop after the fat lady sings. But you don't have to have an ear for music to love Bertorelli's, a discerning appetite and an appreciation for fine Italian cuisine, both classic and modern, will be fine. The restaurant is richly and elegantly dressed with a beautiful Caffé and Wine Bar on the lower floor. The service is swift and quite formal, and the food just fab. Try antipasti of Beef carpaccio with parmigiano reggiano crisp, rocket and truffle oil, followed by a pasta course of Smoked salmon ravioli with sour cream and chive sauce, main of marinated chicken breast with crispy fennel, mozzarella risotto cake, red pepper and basil sauce, and go for a cheese course of Parmesan with spiced plum chutney. The wine list is outstanding.
